The weather might not be the best right now, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be looking after our garden. In fact, according to Trugreen, a lot of people in the Atlanta area seem to think that, because the weather gets colder, lawns, plants, and trees do not need as much attention. However, while it is certainly true that a lot of greenery now goes dormant, it is important to properly support it so that it can come back stronger than ever when the temperatures change again. So what are some of the things you should have done before the cold season started?
Trugreen on Garden Preparations
The first thing you should have done was declog all of your gutters. This should be done first, because a lot of the debris from the gutters will end up falling in your garden. Not just that, however, if there were to be a leak in your roof, the last time of year you want that to happen is during the winter! The seasons in Atlanta mean that, from the end of September onwards, you need to start thinking about cleaning those gutters as a starting point of a winter lawn.
Next, you need to make sure all your shrubs, hedges, and trees are trimmed properly. This means that, cosmetically at least, everything will look pretty when it goes dormant. Again, you need to do this before any ground work, because it means that you can clear up everything in one go. DIY from your home and garden needs quite a bit of work and upkeep. You should leave this till quite late, however, because it is a chance for you to stop any diseases or troubled areas. When the foliage starts to reduce somewhat, it is much easier to do this.
If you have not hired a professional company like Trugreen to winter prep and clear your garden for you, you will now need to hire a dumpster. You may be able to have some of your rubbish removed through the City of Atlanta itself, but they probably won’t be able to take all of it. It is generally a lot easier – and cheaper – to simply hire a dumpster that you can fill up completely and that can simply be taken away for you. Doing so is also a great way to make sure you don’t have to use lots of different plastic bags, thereby protecting the environment to a degree as well. After all, we all have to take some responsibility for keeping the area clean and environmentally sustainable.
Once all of this is done, you will finally be able to rake your entire lawn. Make sure any debris is removed and take any garden furniture and equipment that isn’t fixed away and put it into storage if you can. Doing so will ensure it does not collect and dirt of other forms of debris and thereby causes damage to the rest of your lawn or garden. While the garden won’t need a lot of work during the colder season, it will need some, as you can see.
