The Pegasus School, a non-profit private day school, has taken a significant step forward in enhancing its learning environment with the opening of the Geisler Family WINGS building. This state-of-the-art multipurpose library, unveiled on May 30, represents a fusion of traditional library resources with modern educational technology and flexible learning spaces.
The new facility, primarily funded by a donation from the Geisler family, is designed to support the diverse learning needs of students from pre-K through eighth grade. It embodies the principles of 21st-century learning, emphasizing collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.
Key educational features of the Geisler Family WINGS building include:
- Expanded Library Resources: The new facility nearly doubles the school’s library capacity, providing students with increased access to a wide range of literary and reference materials.
- Flexible Learning Spaces: Small group study rooms and additional instructional areas allow for differentiated instruction and collaborative project work, supporting various learning styles and pedagogical approaches.
- Technology Integration: The Launch Pad room, featuring a 120-inch digital display wall, facilitates interactive lessons and multimedia presentations, preparing students for a technology-rich world.
- Specialized Support: Dedicated offices for learning specialists ensure that students with diverse learning needs receive tailored support in a conducive environment.
- Multifunctional Design: A performance stage in the Launch Pad room encourages artistic expression and public speaking skills, while a student loft area promotes informal learning and social interaction.
The project is part of the school’s Wonder, Inspire, Nurture, Soar (WINGS) initiative, which aims to create learning environments that foster curiosity, creativity, and academic excellence.
Anthony Geisler, the lead donor behind the project, emphasized the educational vision behind the new building: “We envision the Geisler Family Wings building as a hub of inspiration and growth, reflecting our commitment to nurturing individual talents and fostering a lifelong love of learning. It is our hope that this building will provide students with a vibrant, supportive space where they can explore their passions and develop confidence, just as our daughters have.”
The Geisler family’s involvement with The Pegasus School began when they enrolled their eldest daughter in first grade. “Transferring our eldest daughter to Pegasus was a pivotal moment for our family,” Geisler shared. “We sought a school that could nurture her talents and provide a supportive, enriching education. The positive experiences and exceptional growth our daughters have enjoyed at Pegasus played a crucial role in our decision to support the WINGS building.”
The opening of this facility highlights the growing trend of reimagining school libraries as multifunctional learning commons. As schools nationwide seek to prepare students for an ever-changing future, spaces like the Geisler Family WINGS building demonstrate how thoughtful design can support comprehensive, student-centered learning experiences.
“Seeing this project come to life has been incredible,” Anthony Geisler said. “Our hope is that this building will inspire countless students to pursue their passions and dreams. We’re honored to be part of a project that will have a lasting impact on this wonderful community.”
As the education sector continues to evolve, the Geisler Family WINGS building stands as a model for how private donations and innovative design can come together to create transformative learning environments. The Pegasus School’s initiative demonstrates the potential for philanthropic partnerships to significantly enhance educational resources and learning experiences for students.
