In the yoga world & community today, it is almost impossible not to be on social media. Social media is useful to get in touch with like-minded individuals – yoga practitioners and other yoga teachers – and to share and connect about our yoga practice. It is, however, easy to let them be time and energy consumers without intending it. We do have options not to be or to be on social media to avoid distractions, the comparison trap, and criticism, but the optimist in me truly believes there is a way to use social media mindfully to reap only the benefits these platforms have to offer.
Here are a couple of social media tips for yoga teachers that I’ve collected, either as I’ve received them from others or thought myself they might be wise to follow:
Unfollow people who don’t inspire you
There are so many yoga teachers and yoga practitioners. There’s no need to follow people who don’t inspire you.
Block those who might steal your energy.
Setting healthy boundaries is very important in life and on social media. If someone is violating asteya and stealing your energy, it’s ok to block them. It’s even healthy and recommended to block them.
Use social media wisely to connect with those who think like you.
In the same way that you crave authentic connections in your life, and as you might feel unsatisfied with what social media have to offer, there are people like you who feel the same way. Choose carefully who you want to connect with.
Post what you really want to share and nothing more or less.
Share authentically and only share what is on your heart to share. There’s no need to share more or less.
