In 2019, over 5 million people became owners of new homes. If you’re among those people, congratulations! Moving into a new home is always exciting!
Now that you’ve gotten through your move, it’s time to start making little tweaks to your house to really make it shine.
You might be thinking to yourself, “I just bought a house. The last thing that I have money for right now are renovations.”
Get this though… Aside from buying yourself a classic Chesterfield sofa made from luxury leather, there are other various upgrades you can make to give your home that elegant feel you are aiming for.
Look no further than these 8 upgrade suggestions below to see what we’re talking about!
1. Clean Up Your Cords
Flat-screen TVs, game consoles, stereos… You name it and the modern millennial probably has it in their living room.
The big downside to owning all of that awesome tech is that cords spill out of the back of everything. You might think that people don’t notice that giant mess but we’re sorry to tell you that they do.
Fortunately, you can solve all of your cord problems by heading over to your local big-box store and buying a $10.00 plastic cord box. Armed with one, your living room will be cord-free and a heck of a lot cleaner!
2. Paint Your Fridge
If you already have one of those nice, stainless-steel fridges, you can skip this tip. If you have one of those old-looking white fridges though, you’re going to love this suggestion!
You can head over to a crafts store right now and pick up stainless steel paint. With it, you can spray over your fridge and make it look like one of those $1000.00+ models that you see at Best Buy for under $10.00!
3. Frame Your Flat Screen
Is your flat-screen TV the centerpiece of your living room? Do you have it mounted on your wall? If you answered yes to those questions, we recommend framing your flat screen!
What do we mean by framing? We mean literally getting a frame professionally made to hug the edges of your television.
Not only will framing your TV make it tie in better to the rest of your room’s decor but it will also make it feel like a piece of art as opposed to a giant electronic gadget that sucks away everybody’s time and attention.
4. Upgrade to a Canopy Bed
We’ve all seen those canopy beds in the movies that are surrounded by beautiful curtains. Wouldn’t you like one of those?
The problem is that canopy beds are expensive which is why they tend to only be fixtures in luxury homes. What people don’t tell you is that with some cheap curtain rods, a power-drill and a free Saturday afternoon, you can create your own canopy bed!
Just drill some rods into your ceiling around your bed, drape a curtain on your rod and just like that, you’ll be sleeping like a celebrity.
5. Invest in Good Lighting
Good lighting can give any room that luxury look that you find yourself admiring in magazines. In our opinion, the best kind of light that you can buy today are lights by Phillips Hue.
These bulbs are insanely versatile in that they can change between shades of white, are dimmable and can even perform major color shifts to blue, red, green and more which is great for hosting themed parties.
6. Throw in an Accent Ceiling
We’re sure that you’ve heard of accent walls. Have you ever heard of an accent ceiling before though? We’re guessing that you haven’t!
Accent ceilings have been an interior decorating fixture for about 5-years or so and are continuing to pick up steam. Simply paint your ceiling a color that contrasts from your room’s white walls and your visitors will be craning their necks to “ooh” and “ahh” and your creative mastery.
7. …Or Stick With an Accent Wall
Accent ceilings too much for your taste? We can appreciate that perspective.
After all, who wants to paint a ceiling? You’d have to wear a shower cap just to keep paint from spilling onto your head!
If you want to stick with the basics, use that tub of ceiling paint and throw it on one of your walls. Accent walls are a luxury look that only take a couple of hours to get done.
8. Add Framed Mirrors to Your Closet Doors
Mirrored closet doors are every bit as practical as they are luxurious looking. If you’re not fortunate enough to own one of those awesome reflective closets, you’ve got options!
Buy some cheap standing mirrors, hang them at the center of each of your closet doors and paint their frames so they match their door’s color. Just like that, you’ll have faux reflective closet doors and will be able to take in your full-body reflection!
