It’s a best-selling book, and it’s also a popular Netflix show. Since the publication of the book, Marie Kondo’s methods have grown into a worldwide cultural phenomenon.
It includes everything from how to store items to how to determine which items to discard and which to keep.
But according to the wellness advice blog known as Goop – founded by the actress Gwyneth Paltrow – the most “revolutionary tool” is the Marie Kondo folding technique. Let’s check out what it is together!
What is the Marie Kondo Folding Technique?
They say tidy space, tidy mind. Could it be that the art of tidying is the secret behind being happy too?
The Marie Kondo holding method allows you to keep your clothes tidy and organized.
According to Marie Kondo, our clothes shouldn’t be laid down flat inside the drawer.
We shouldn’t avoid folds in our clothes. Instead, the more folds the fewer wrinkles you’ll find when you come to wear it.

How to Fold Socks
You probably take the pair of socks and tuck one sock into the other sock. Or perhaps, you should throw them into your sock drawer at random.
The Konmari method is as follows:
- Lay one sock on top of the other sock.
- Fold the toe end inwards to the other end into the center.
- Repeat until the socks can be stood up upright.
- Organize each pair in a row in your drawer.
How to Fold Underwear
Have you ever thought about folding underwear? Probably not!
You can use the same method for briefs, thongs and bikini bottoms too.
- Lay underwear flat.
- Then, fold in half lengthwise.
- Continue to fold each side.
- Stand upright in your drawer next to each other.
How to Fold T-Shirts
There are a bunch of different ways to fold t-shirts but the Marie Kondo method is something else.
- Lay t-shirt flat.
- Fold the right side inwards, followed by the sleeve.
- Fold the sleeve back half way.
- Fold over the other side and fold the sleeve on this side.
- Fold in the neckline slightly, before folding the whole t-shirt to the halfway point.
- Fold inwards until you can stand it up.
How to Fold Sweatshirts
So far, so good. What about those pesky sweaters?
- Lay sweatshirt flat out in front of you.
- Fold the right side inwards but leave the sleeve out.
- Then, fold over the sleeve until you’re left with a triangular shape.
- Repeat on the other side.
- Fold from the top inwards until the sweater can stand upright.
How to Fold Jeans
You may be thinking – I don’t fold jeans.
There is an on-going hang vs fold argument regarding jeans. Marie Kondo comes down on the fold side of the debate. Let’s see!
- Lay jeans flat.
- Fold one leg over the other leg.
- Fold in the crotch part.
- Fold over the leg bottom toward the top.
- Then, repeat the fold until jeans can stand up.
