Traditionally before the invention of tapes, man used adhesive substances extracted from tree saps. It was after that when man invented the surgical tape. As technology advanced, human beings continued developing more types of sticky tapes that vary in their use. Currently, there are several types of tapes used for different reasons. The design of these tapes has specific functions.
The article below provides the different types of sticky tapes commonly used.
Commonly Used Sticky Tapes
Fabric Tape
Cloth or fabric is the primary material used to make it. Its primary function is for medical purposes. They are mostly found in medical institutions and dispensaries. It is mostly used for dressing purposes such as bulk dressing, splint securing, and gauze application.
The reason why medics use these tapes is due to their strength and causes no injury when removed. The fabric used is comfortable to tear; hence cutting the size one requires is easy. They do not cause allergic reactions since they do not contain rubber or latex. They provide much comfort since they are breathable.
Crafters also use fabric tapes when designing. They mainly use it when sewing, bookbinding, and other craft projects, while construction workers also use it to seal walls. Cloth tapes come in different designs, making it the most preferred tape by many professionals. Electricians and plumbers also use it because of the waterproof feature.
Duct Tape
It is an all-purpose tape due to its waterproof characteristic. It comes with different designs giving one the chance to choose the most preferred one. It is among the highly versatile tapes and most flexible. People use duct tapes to make purses, ornaments, textbook covers, and human-made flowers. One can also use it for decorative purposes due to the variety of colours.
Other duct tape functions include sealing a leaking boat, making clothing, and covering holes in shoes.
Masking Tape
One can refer to it as the painter’s tape since painters use it mostly in the painting work. The primary material used in the manufacturing of masking tape is paper. This feature gives it a pressure-sensitive characteristic making it easy to apply and remove from walls.
When the painting work is complete, painters can easily remove it without smearing paint on the wall’s unwanted section. Masking tapes are not usable when trying to seal permanent repairs. Car painters also use masking tapes to mark up vehicles when painting. One can also use it for labeling to mark stored items. They can also make race tracks for vacuum cleaners and toys.
Mounting Tape
Commonly known as double-sided tape, this tape’s function is to hang items on walls or other surfaces such as wood. The tape is covered on both sides. When in use, one peels off one side and sticks it on the surface. After sticking, peel off the outer side and hang items on it. Mounting tape is mostly temporary, but some companies manufacture those that are permanent.
Before purchasing any mounting tape, make sure you read the description carefully to avoid inconveniences. Before going for the permanent type, decide on the exact location of the placement. Some can pull off the painting when removed, causing damage to the walls.
