According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control), there are millions of cases of the common cold every year. Most adults catch two to three colds while children tend to suffer from them more.
But some illnesses don’t go away in a week or two.
Chronically ill people not only have to deal with being physically ill but they have to manage the emotional toll being sick has on them as well. Support from friends and family can be tremendously helpful.
One way to say you care and show support is by sending a get well soon card. If you’re not sure what to say, keep reading. We’re sharing with you what to write in a get well card.
Begin Your Get Well Soon Card with a Warm Greeting
Who you’re writing to is just as important as their circumstance. Take both into consideration as you begin writing your message.
The safest way to start your note is to use the word “Dear”. However, if you are particularly close to the person, you can choose a more intimate greeting.
Write a Few Get Well Soon Wishes
There are tons of options when it comes to writing the perfect get well wishes. You don’t need to get specific to show you care.
Examples for Acquaintances
For those people you’re not close to such as a co-worker try these:
- “Wishing you well”
- “Miss you around here”
- “Sending positive, healthy vibes your way”
- “Here’s to a speedy recovery”
Examples for Friends and Family
You can get more personal when you’re sending a get well card to people you know well such as:
- “You’re in my thoughts and prayers”
- “I love you and think of you often”
- “I’m here for you always”
- “You’re strong and brave and you amaze me”
Offer to Help
For those people recuperating from an illness or those dealing with a chronic illness, it’s not just the emotional support they need. Offering to help them can lift a huge burden off their shoulders.
You don’t need to rescue them, but even offering to do small tasks can be a big help such as:
- “Rest until you’re feeling better. In the meantime, we’ll mow the lawn”
- “I’m coming over to bring you a few pre-made meals for you to enjoy”
- “Here’s a gift certificate to your favorite take-out restaurant”
- “We’re enjoying picking up (your child) from school. Hope that makes one less thing to worry about while you focus on healing”
Love, Prayer, and Laughter
If you love this person, say so. Love has healing powers.
If you’re religious or the sick person is, send a few prayers along to help them feel comforted and empowered.
You can also use the healing power of laughter by writing a joke or two in your note. If they have an illness that isn’t catching, you may want to invite them to an event.
Having something to look forward to, especially when the sick are so often isolated is very powerful. Use a save the date template and then personalize it.
