For starters, YES you can install an air conditioning system by yourself. However, there are certain limits to this.
Well, lucky for you as we have got you covered! In this article, we are not only going to explain how to DIY install your aircon system. But you will also learn certain limitations to this DIY expedition! So, without further ado – let’s start our discussion!
What Do You Need To Know For DIY AC Installation?
It is very tempting for people to install aircon units on their own because it’s cheaper! However, installing an aircon on your own is risky. Why? It is because if something goes wrong, it would not only cost you the precious investment, but you are also putting the safety of your house, and yourself in danger. So hence, unless you are familiar with this kind of work it’s better to seek help from professionals like Alpha & Omega Air Conditioning.
Furthermore, whether you can install the air-cooling system on your own or not – also depends on the system type, size and need for ductwork! Portable air conditioners and mini-split aircon systems do not require complicated installation procedure, hence you can DIY install them. But if you wish to install a large split AC with the ducted system then it’s better to call a professional.
Important Guidelines For Efficient DIY AC Install!
Before moving, let us remind you that these guidelines are for those people who wish to install mini-split or split AC without ducted system units. For a perfect DIY AC install to make sure to follow the guidelines shared below. Otherwise, poor AC installation would not just cost your time & energy – but also your money because of frequent maintenance issues.
Chose A Wall That Can Hold The AC:
Everyone knows that aircon systems have two units – indoors and outdoors. While the outdoor unit can be mounted or supported using a stand – the indoor must be fixed on a wall. It means no support beneath! Therefore, it is important to pick a wall with enough strength to support and hold the indoor AC unit!
Keep Enough Space Between Wall & AC:
When installing the indoor aircon unit you have to make sure that there is enough space for the unit. It means that there should be a minimum of 15 cm of open space over the top and sides of the AC unit. If there is not enough space between the AC & the wall it would manipulate the proper airflow.
Get An Appropriate Height Measure:
The indoor unit is to mount on a wall at a certain height above the ground. To allow the AC unit to work at its maximum efficiency, the indoor must be mounted at least 7 to 8 feet above the ground on the wall. Measure the right distance from the ground and mark the right spot before starting the installation procedure.
Indoor Must Be Install At a Tilt Angle:
It is important to install the indoor AC unit at a slightly tilted angle. The logical reason behind this is that at this angle, the condensed water flows unrestrictedly from the drain pipes. To keep the indoor unit at a slight tilt angle, fix the aluminum brackets at this angle.
Install The Outdoor on Correct Location:
One thing that most people get wrong is the location of the outdoor aircon unit. Although the outer is supposed to be in the open, install at a location where it doesn’t come under direct sunlight. Otherwise, the efficiency and cooling level of the air conditioner would be affected.
It’s always better to install the outer unit under shade to protect it from water and direct sunlight – and allowing proper heat dissipation. Also, keep a minimum of 15 meters distance between the indoor and outdoor units to reduce the cooling loss!
If you are planning on doing a DIY AC install, then it is quite important to have all the right tools, gear and fittings! Otherwise, you can always call the professionals to do the job!
