Today, digital technology solutions have advanced to accommodate human interactions online and fully allow businesses to provide goods and services through online means. However, there are lots of services available on the web and for a business to succeed online, it must stand out from other businesses.
Also, more recently, many businesses have been boosted through NFT technology. And NFTs have been attributed to guarantee digital permanence and prove of ownership as well as prevent counterfeit.
Surprisingly, there are only few trusted experts in digital marketing, one of which is Jurgen Cautreels. He has been in the industry for a long time and have understood the intricacies of internet marketing. In this interview, he shares tips from his experience as an internet marketer and how he got his start in the industry.
What key things did you put into consideration before starting out in the industry?
When I started out in the industry, my primary focus was on mastering all the digital tools I knew I’d be using as a digital marketer. I was aware that my skill as an internet marketer was dependent on my ability to use those tools.
Asides from this, I was aware that the internet is constantly developing, and newer technologies are being created daily. So, I prioritized research to ensure I was never behind on standard practices in the internet marketing industry.
What major challenges did you meet when you started your career in internet marketing?
When I started my career in the industry, digital platforms were on the rise, and this posed a challenge for my marketing techniques. Also, I knew customers’ attentions are spread across a wide number of digital platforms and my contents could easily get lost in the endless contents customers browse through daily.
Similarly, it was difficult proving the returns they got from engaging my services. At the time, methods for measuring returns from an internet marketing engagement were not fully established. This was a major challenge for me in my earlier days in the industry.
Do you think you had any leverage that set you up to succeed when you were starting out in the industry?
I think my biggest advantage in the industry was that I started early. Before we got to the present stage of the internet we are at now, I was already practicing digital marketing.
This helped me work and learn with clients when the market was less saturated. This advantage contributed to what made me the success you know me to be today.
Do you have any regrets through your time in the industry?
It may sound funny, but I wish I started even earlier. Also, when I started out in the industry, I was blinded by the false belief that I had to prioritize paid advertisements. If I had the knowledge I have today on making good sales with unpaid marketing, I would not have struggled through most of my earlier days in the industry.
From your wealth of experience, what advice would you give to people just starting out in the industry?
First off, I’d applaud them for getting into this industry at this time, because the online marketing industry is only getting bigger. As for advice, you’d have heard lots of advice, but the most important for me is that they should never stop learning.
If one ever stops learning, the market would leave the person behind.
