Work isn’t supposed to be fun, is it?
Most people have a hard time associating the word “fun” with the thought of being at work. Fun is had outside of work with your friends and family, not couped up in an office with your coworkers. Well, that’s not how it has to be.
In this post, we’re going to give you 5 amazing tips that’ll show you how to have fun at work instead of letting the monotony take over. With any luck, your new-found exuberance will rub off on all of your coworkers and you’ll have a full-blown madhouse for a workplace.
Let’s have some fun, shall we?
1. Make Achievements Fun
If you make your OKRs a point of pride for everyone, then you’ll be able to enjoy the journey that gets you there.
So many companies have a results-driven culture, but the stress of getting the results detracts from the enjoyment that an employee could possibly have. You can create a rewards system around individual and group achievements.
This friendly competition will lead to more good work coming about, and eventually that’ll become the norm.
2. Create a Community
You won’t create a sense of community in the office overnight, but if you put the effort into cultivating lasting relationships, you’ll be rewarded. A community can come in many different forms, and the thing that you all share is the common goal of making your company succeed.
You don’t have to do it for your boss or the owner of the company that you’ve never met before. When you’re working hard to make the lives of the people in the cubicles around you easier, you’ll collectively take more pride and enjoyment out of the work that you do.
3. Curate Your Space
There’s nothing more fun than feeling at home while you’re at work. Make sure to use what little space you have, whether it be a cubicle, a desk, or a full corner office, to make your experience at work as comfortable as possible.
Bring in items that remind you of the people you love and items that elicit a sense of calm and happiness. Another great idea to have a little bit of fun is to add pictures of some of your coworkers to your workspace. This humanizes everyone and boosts that sense of community we talked about earlier.
4. Work Outings
Team-building outings are often lame events put on by clueless higher-ups that saw a stat about the correlation between team-building and productivity. However, regular work outings to a restaurant or bar will help you really get to know the people you work with.
Having a good time with your coworkers outside of work will seep into your day to day and make everyone a little bit happier.
5. Push for a Meditation Space
Stress and anxiety are poisonous to office atmospheres. If you’re affected by work pressure, converting an unused storage area into a sort-of meditation room for people to take five will help your sanity.
A lot of offices are installing these because we’re starting to learn more about the effects of anxiety and depression as a result of being at the workplace. Use this space to clear your mind when things are too overwhelming and get back to having fun with your coworkers.
Have Fun at Work with Coworkers
To truly create a fun-loving atmosphere at your office, you have to have fun at work alongside your coworkers, not in spite of them. Being excited to go in every day because you get to work with friends is the easiest way to have fun, so get to know these people and spend time on your relationships.
