Facial toner is something which has made a comeback to the regular face cleaning regime again. And it is a good idea to include it in the facial cleaning routine.
Facial toner is basically an in between skincare step. This is meant to be used after washing the face and before using any moisturiser or serum on it. Previosuly toners were mainly used in order to balance the pH balance of the skin once something was used on it for cleansing purposes. But over the years, the function of a toner has also evolved. It is no more an astringent product and these days, toners are mostly water based.
Why one must use a toner?
Toners should be used because it can prepare the skin for the serum or the moisturiser and it also gets rid of the excess oil and dirt (if there is any left even after cleaning). But one must not skip the cleanising part before using a toner on the face. Toners can also take care of dry and acne prone skins. There are some toners which are moatly formulated for oily skin. They have a combination of salicylic and glycolic acids. There are also toners to cater the dry skin which come with some hydrating agent. One needs to find the right toner depending on what skin type they have and it is very essential to do that.
How should one use it?
This is a very easyt thing to do. One needs to soak a cotton pad in the toner and then swipe the entire face with it. Not only that, one can also apply it on the neck and the upper portion of the chest. Once the face and neck is cleanly washed with a face wash one has to apply the toner. If one does not want to use a cotton pad then they can always take a few drops of it on their clean hand and then press it all over the face and neck. Toners should be used twice a day (both morning and night.
Now when it comes to pixi toners there are endless varieties that one can think of. They can pick a toner depending on what is their skin type and what their skin wants. Here are a few varieties of toners that are available in the market and one can choose from them if they cater their needs:
- Rosewater for hydration
- Tea tree oil to fight oil and bacteria
- Chamomile for soothing
- Vitamin E for hydration
- Aloe vera to calm inflammation and redness
- Plant stem cells for antioxidants and anti aging properties
Now these are some of the very active ingredients that are used in order to make a toner. In fact, there can be a combination of ingredients as well in order to cater different skin issues. Apart from these ingredients one can also check the other componets before zeroing down to one toner. Also before buying any of them, a skin patch test is necessary.
