Homework is a daily struggle for both students and parents. What makes completing homework so challenging, though? Is it a lack of understanding of certain concepts?
Is it due to exhaustion or frustration? What’s making homework such a difficult task at home? What kind of homework help do you need?
To learn a few homework tips and tricks for a variety of homework problems, continue reading below.
Start It Earlier in the Day
If you wait until too late into the day, exhaustion can set in. Students are already tired after school and after their afterschool care. It’s a good idea to start and have homework done before 5 pm.
After this time, students may be ready to call it a day. Their brains are ready to shut down and only focus on eating dinner, taking their baths, and getting to bed. To keep their momentum going, have them complete it sooner.
Give them a time frame to have it done by. You should also have a set place in the house where homework’s worked on. A quiet place with good aesthetics and away from any distractions is an excellent choice.
Stay Organized
Some students, depending on the age and grade level, are given multiple homework assignments each night. As the week moves on, their homework list can become overwhelming. Staying organized is a great way to ensure everything gets done and to keep anxiety and stress at a minimum.
Have them keep a planner where all assignments and due dates are listed. As the student completes an assignment, they can mark it off in their planner.
Take Advantage of a Writing Center
Writing is a challenging subject for many students. If their homework consists of writing assignments, then you should consider taking advantage of a writing center. Most college campuses have writing centers on-site where students can receive writing help for free.
Otherwise, you can look into different writing help centers online as well. Once you learn more about this type of writing help, you can decide which option is best for you. Many centers allow you to send in the writing and have it revised for you based on the grade level and type of paper.
Hire a Tutor or Recruit a Family Member
Not all children work best with their parents. Because it’s your own child, both of you can become frustrated with one another more quickly and lose patience faster. In some instances, it’s best to either hire a tutor or recruit a family member to help with homework time.
When someone else is there to help, you can focus on preparing dinner and doing other tasks. The student might also be more inclined to listen when the help is coming from a third party.
