Since all of this quarantine started I have been trying my best to stay in close contact with friends and family. Thankfully we live in the modern age where this is more possible than ever before. I have not only been speaking with friends and family but also some professionals in many areas, to help myself through this time. One in particular, a brilliant psychologist called Remi Landau, has been inspirational for me during this time and in particular he has helped to look beyond lockdown and make an action plan for that, something which we should all be doing.
Reasons For The Plan
The reasons why we need to make this action plan is so that we don’t forget the stresses and the strains, or even the thought processes which we have had during lockdown. The perfect analogy is this, how many times are you counting down the days until your vacation from work, planning a million things that you will do with your time, in most cases however we get back to work having achieved just 20% of what we had planned, and now it is too late. This could certainly be the case right now and it is critical that we plan exactly how we are going to achieve once lockdown is over.
Mapping
It is very easy to be on lockdown and to spend your days thinking ‘when this is over I am going to do this more, and start doing this and that’ in order to actually do it we need to ma out the process. Let’s say you are sitting there thinking that you wish you’d spent more time with friends instead of at home, map out what that looks like. Put in place a plan to go to the theater every week, consider where you are your friends will eat, which bars you will try out. The key is to take that original thought and run with it, rather than simply having empty desires.
Holding Yourself to Account
Holding yourself to account is the most important thing when it comes to these sorts of things and it is essential that you are going into this plan with your eyes open and with a clear desire to get things done. The key to getting these things done is to harness the feelings you have now, and the emotions and desires which you have. In order to hold yourself to account and to remember these emotions of being trapped and stuck at home, you have to write down or record videos of yourself speaking the truth. In doing this you have something to reference when all of this is over and if you ever feel lazy, simply go back to that writing or those videos and you can stir up those feelings and remind yourself to get busy with your plans.
Personal accountability and actually planning for all of this being over is the best way to keep your eyes on the prize.
