Western Astrology
Western astrology originated from the book “Tetrabiblos” and is the type of astrology you might be the most familiar with. This branch of astrology uses the person’s birthdate to determine where they fall on the horoscope chart. Also known as “Sun Sign Astrology” the astrology signs are based on the sun’s transition and the movement of the Zodiac.
There are five factors that are used to make predictions in western astrology. These are the position of the planets in the natal chart houses, the Zodiac astrology signs, the ascendant and descendant position and movement, position of the moon in orbit, and the angle that is formed between two planets and their main angle.
When the beginning of the Zodiac depends on the March Equinox it is known as the Tropical Zodiac. This is the type of Zodiac system that western astrology follows and you can learn more about it at Ask Astrology.
Vedic Astrology
Vedic astrology is known as Indian or Hindu astrology and is one of the most ancient forms of the practice. Said to have originated millions of years ago from the Vedas there is evidence of Vedic astrology in ancient texts. These texts date back from 5000 to 8000 years ago.
This branch of astrology follows the influence of the planetary motions and the stars that affect humans. According to Vedic astrology, there are 12 different zodiac signs, 12 houses, 9 planets, and 27 constellations that affect us on a daily basis. In order to understand how these all personally affect you, a birth chart must be made so you can learn about your life events and predict future events.
Vedic astrology differs from western astrology by using fixed zodiac signs to predict the future.
Chinese Astrology
Chinese astrology originated during the Zhou and Han Dynasty between the 2nd century BC and the 2nd century AD. This astrology is based on the belief that there are Yin and a Yang which is the balance of good and evil, as well as Heaven and Earth, the Sun and Moon, and the five elements. These five elements are earth, metal, fire, air, and water.
Each planet in the solar system is associated with and represents the elements. For instance, Mercury is associated with water, Mars with fire, Saturn with earth, Jupiter with wood, and Venus with metal. Besides the different planetary elements, Chinese astrology operates on a 12-year cycle. Each year signifies a different animal sign.
Horary Astrology
Horary, meaning “of the hour,” astrology originated during the 8th century. This style of astrology uses a chart for the precise moment in time to follow for when the seeker asks a question. In Horary astrology the time and place of the seeker when asking the question is significant.
While other astrology practices use the person’s birthdate to determine their future, the Horary chart goes off of the location and angle of the moon at the time of the question. In order to successfully read the chart, the seeker must ask their question so it can be answered with either Yes or No. The chart also allows the seeker additional options to expound on their yes or no answer.
This form of astrology is complex but it is great for when you need a quick answer to your question.
Karmic Astrology
Karmic astrology follows the belief that you have been reincarnated into your current life. Those who follow Karmic astrology believe that their soul is eternal and will repeat actions in future lives. It is not only about reincarnation, but your spiritual continuity as well.
Karmic astrology will study the star’s arrangement at the time of your birth to determine the burdens from your past lives. It has similar goals as other astrology practices in that it attempts to sort out any of your past conflicts. This is so that you can understand your present-day circumstances and predict your foreseeable future.
In this practice, the Sun determines your goals in life and tells you how you became the person you are now. The bond between the Sun, Moon, and Earth gives you an understanding of how your soul is in constant transformation and evolution.
Election Astrology
Election astrology was originated to help plan battles and other main events. It is used to deal with a period of events and their timing. This is a great type of astrology to use if you are planning any big events. Such as planning your wedding day, taking a big trip, or any other life events that are important to you.
Election astrology was created to predict the outcome of events that will be performed at that location. A chart is created using 12 houses that represent the events and the planets that represent the activity you plan on performing during those events.
The Election astrology chart differs from the Horary astrology chart because it aims to answer the question of the seeker before the event occurs. This can be useful when trying to plan out major events in your life.
