Choosing a destination for a family holiday can be difficult. You don’t want to spend too much time travelling from place to place, but you also need to ensure that everyone gets to do something they enjoy. You want to have a memorable trip, but you don’t want to break the bank. Here are six suggestions for fun family trips in 2019.
The Caribbean
The Caribbean will always attract families, thanks to its laidback hospitality and warm weather. There are a host of islands to visit, too – whether it’s Antigua and its beautiful beaches, stunning St Lucia with its dramatic Piton mountains, or Barbados that offers top-class diving and snorkelling, as well as some of the tastiest rums around. If you opt for a cruise, you can take in several islands and find your favourite. Best of all, you’ll be able to see new places every day without the stress of packing. Many cruise ships are family friendly, offering kids’ clubs and dedicated hangout spaces for teenagers. If you need some help to decide where to go, let these all inclusive cruises inspire you.
Malta
If you’re looking for a beach holiday mixed in with culture, the Mediterranean island of Malta tops the list. The pint-sized capital of Valletta is renowned for its baroque architecture, but it’s also full of child-friendly activities. Take the kids to the Toy Museum or saunter along the waterfront, where you’ll find bouncy castles, street entertainers and much more during the evenings and weekends. You can relax on the beaches, or enjoy more active activities such as horse riding or mountain biking. Malta is small enough that you can explore the island easily, but there’s no shortage of things to do.
Slovenia
If you’ve got an active family that loves being outdoors, Slovenia is a fantastic choice. This stunning eastern European country boasts crystal lakes, soaring mountains and subterranean caves to be explored. The capital, Ljubljana, is a picturesque, laidback city with lots to see and do. The whole family will love visiting the local markets, taking a boat cruise around the city and exploring the castle. There are lots of family-friendly attractions nearby, including The Geoss Adventure Park, which features treetop-climbing routes, zip lines and slides. The country also boasts a host of great campsites and B&Bs.
The Isles of Scilly
It’s easy to forget that there are some fantastic small islands located all around the United Kingdom. The Isles of Scilly are a stunning archipelago off the coast of Cornwall that your family will love to explore. Stretch out on quiet white-sand beaches that rival the Caribbean – the island of St Martin has some of the best in the UK. Go on a wildlife safari on a boat, looking out for seals, puffins and guillemots. Another popular activity is to go snorkelling with friendly seals. If you’re looking for a relaxed trip that’s close to home, this is the holiday for you.
Thailand
If you’re interested in travelling further afield, Thailand makes for an exotic and eye-opening holiday for the whole family. You’ll be spellbound by the temples and the landscape of forests and mountains. Of course, Thailand is most renowned for its beautiful tropical islands, where you can really kick back and relax. There are lots of child-friendly activities on offer, including theme parks and zoos. And look out for eco-conscious camps where you can bathe with elephants. Another plus with Thailand is that once you’re there, food and accommodation is very cheap. There are also plenty of all-inclusive trips to Thailand and other South Asian destinations, which helps to reduce costs.
Bulgaria
If you’ve already visited the Costa Del Sol and the Algarve, consider heading to Bulgaria for a European beach holiday. The stunning Black Sea coast is lined with golden sand beaches and lively resorts. The popular Sunny Beach offers high-octane water sports, such as jet-skiing and banana boating, and water parks that families will love. There’s also an old-fashioned funfair, complete with rollercoasters and a house of horror. It’s easy to get off the beaten track, exploring Bulgaria’s untamed mountainous landscape, and quieter beaches. Another big plus is that Bulgaria is Europe’s best-value destination.
At least one of these very different destinations should appeal to you and your family. Wherever you choose, you’re bound to have fun!
