Have a long train journey coming up and wondering how you’re going to pass the time? You might think trains exist to simply get you from one place to another, but they also offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape and the opportunity to unwind.
With Wifi and refreshments available on many trains, as well as other enthusiastic passengers to socialise with, there is more than enough to keep you entertained.
Read on to discover some tips for beating boredom on your next long train journey.
Consider splitting up your journey
Okay, many people think that having to get more than one train is stressful and tedious. But it can save you money and allow you to have some more fun. Split tickets make your journey a lot less costly. Rather than going from one station to another, you’ll board two trains at two different stations. This could be a quick changeover, eating none of your time – or a longer wait, allowing you to stop for a coffee or stretch your legs in a new place.
Boarding a new train will also give you a change of scenery, should you get bored of being on the same train for so long.
Take in the fascinating scenery
Trains travel through parts of the country where no one else does, providing spectacular countryside views that you wouldn’t see anywhere else. Though you’ll be travelling at an average speed of 65 miles per hour on a passenger train, you’ll see rolling hills and countryside fields that stretch for long distances.
Put some headphones on, play your favourite playlist and look out of your passenger window – you won’t be disappointed. There are several scenic rail routes across the country, but we’re certain all journeys will provide you with striking sights.
Your phone is your best friend
Our phones have everything nowadays. We spend so much time on our phones every day, so why not do the same on your next train journey? Whether it’s listening to music, playing games, browsing social media, or being productive, your phone is a massive hub for entertainment.
You could even use the internet to find out more about the destination you are travelling to. Train journeys should be relaxing, allowing you to do whatever you need to get done on your mobile device.
Watch a movie
Be it your phone, tablet or laptop, you can easily download or stream films and content on your portable devices. Why not download your favourite movies in advance and have them ready to watch on your upcoming train journey?
Socialise with other passengers
You could bump into anybody on a train. Many passengers will be heading to the same place you are, perhaps for the same reason. If you’re confident and chatty, get socialising and make slime new friends with other passengers to pass the time. You might be helping someone else beat their boredom too by doing so.
