New York City is inherently energetic and full of life. At Arlo Hotels, one of our favorite locations that’s well represented in movies, art, and TV is Grand Central Terminal. From “North by Northwest” to “Midnight Run”, the terminal’s iconic design, expansive main concourse and the recognizable clock make it a perfect setting for film.
Most of our visitors have Grand Central Terminal on their list of attractions, and we certainly feel it’s a can’t-miss destination filled with history and elegance. Here are some tips for getting the most out of your visit. Our first tip is to simply walk through the main concourse. This 275-foot space is a gorgeous Beaux-Arts design hall. There are amazing details throughout the main concourse, including oak leaves on the pedestals, beautiful detailing on the ceiling, and windows that let in the right amount of light. It’s also an ideal spot for people watching, as it contains a mix of tourists navigating arms full of souvenirs, people in a hurry trying to catch a train to continue their journey, and locals who utilize the station for their daily commutes.
For dining, we say no trip to Grand Central Terminal is complete without stopping at the Grand Central Oyster Bar & Restaurant – an iconic dining spot which opened in 1913 that has served millions of busy New Yorkers and out-of-towners. A fun fact about this restaurant is its entryway which functions as an acoustic whispering gallery where someone can stand in a corner and clearly hear someone at the other end of the arch even if they speak softly. In addition to this tasty spot there’s also a bustling food court and several shops selling souvenirs and other items that reflect NYC and Grand Central Terminal eternal beauty and charm.
