I never thought I’d live to see my daughter get married, but just a month ago, the love of her life proposed to her! As a single parent, I feel especially obligated to help her in any way I can, whether that be financially or planning-wise. With the responsibilities of two parents on my shoulders, this very well could be a tough situation to navigate, but I’m more than willing to endure the challenges to give my daughter the best possible wedding experience!
Reservations and Planning
One of the most important things I’ve been charged with is picking the right venue. I’ll need to narrow down the choices to just a handful of locations, then run them by my daughter for her final approval. Ample space and a quality atmosphere are givens, but it’ll be just as integral to find somewhere my daughter will love. We’re not settling for anything less than ideal!
I’m also in charge of handling the reservations. I’ve been reviewing different card invitation styles; with so many great aesthetics, it’s tough to pick just one. I’m most interested in white cards with gold accents, but my daughter prefers black with gold accents (she thinks these look more luxurious). That’s fine; at the end of the day, it’s her wedding, and I’m only here to help!
Getting the Right DJ and Playlist
Finding the right DJ shouldn’t be too hard—I’ll just look at reviews online and pull the trigger on the best one!
What will be difficult is choosing the playlist. I know my daughter is a sucker for classics, so I might have to choose songs that her mother and I played at our own wedding. Obviously, I can’t recycle the same track list, but I’ll definitely be taking ideas! Another important thing to consider is the order of the tracks—I don’t want an emotional song to follow a happy one, or vice-versa.
Hiring a Professional Photographer
I’ve also been researching the best photographers in the area; it’d be foolish to hire an amateur. So many of the portfolios I’ve seen are stunning, but I can only choose one. Who knew it’d be so hard to pick?
My daughter deserves photos of the highest professional quality; I want her to look back on them years down the line and once again feel the emotions of the most amazing day of her life! If the photographer isn’t as skilled as we’d like, there is a risk that they can tarnish my daughter’s memories.
Speaking of photographs, I’ve lately been avoiding them like a vampire avoids sunlight. My age is finally starting to show: drooping jowls, turkey neck, and a whole host of facial wrinkles. The last thing I want to do is forever capture the way I look!
So, in addition to all of the wedding planning, I’ve been looking into ways to appear younger. Initially, I believed that cosmetic surgery is for women, but it turns out that there are many surgeons who do facelifts for men, too!
As the wedding isn’t for another few months, I’ve decided to get a facelift myself. I want to look good in my daughter’s wedding pictures—like a better version of myself—partly because of how self-conscious I am, but also because I want her to remember that I looked fantastic!
Renting a Limo for Luxury Transportation
My daughter—the star that she is—deserves to ride in style, so I’m looking into limo services that can further enrich the experience.
It’s going to be priceless to see her guests’ jaws drop when she and her soon-to-be husband arrive. If it weren’t exciting enough to have them flabbergasted by the venue, it’ll be incredible to watch our loved ones cheer when the bride and groom step into that limo and drive away!
The limo itself will, of course, be the cherry on top of the evening. It’ll also be properly decorated with a big, classic “JUST MARRIED” banner and some tin cans. There’s no better way to transition to the after-party than with a safe, stylish limo!
