2018 has just ended and the false-resolutions are starting to come to an end. Going to the gym, cutting out alcohol and junk food, and taking more time for yourself are all common new year’s resolutions that get broken within a month or two of the ball drop.
We know, it’s hard to get your life under control. There are hundreds of reasons why your path to feeling good gets blocked, but here, we’ll look at 6 things you can do to feel better.
1. Change Your Diet
This might seem obvious. Your diet has drastic effects on everything from your general well-being to your mood and your heart and brain function.
People on the go don’t usually stop to think about what they’re putting in their bodies. If you’ve got a busy lifestyle, you don’t have time to cook, right?
Think again. Yes, your job is important, but so is your health. Start taking time out of your evenings and weekends to cook nice meals for yourself. Knowing exactly what is in your food because you made it can put your mind at ease when it comes to your health.
2. PMA
Positive Mental Attitude. It’s easy to fold in on yourself when it comes to negative thoughts. They can spiral out of control and turn you into a different person.
Being mindful of your negative thoughts and attempting to dispel them before they become harmful to you and your relationships is a huge step to feeling positive every day. If you find that you’re unable to, then seek professional help. There’s no shame in mental health issues, many Americans have them.
3. Put Down the Phone, Pick Up a Book
Screen fatigue is becoming a widely accepted concept as our devices control more and more of our every day lives. We live on our phones and computers.
Committing time to read a book once a day can be an incredibly rewarding experience. Even just 30 minutes of quiet reading time can calm your over-stimulated mind.
4. Get Checked Out
Health issues tend to pop up pretty silently. Get regular physicals and stay on top of your health. It’s great peace of mind to know that you’re in okay shape.
If you do this, you’ll know to take strange feelings in your body more seriously. As we age, the need for things like Sciatica Relief or cholesterol and blood pressure medications become a normal part of life.
5. Reconnect With Old Friends
Life moves fast and people lose touch pretty easily when you’re in your 30’s and 40’s. Make a plan to reconnect with an old friend. It’ll make both of you feel good to know that things haven’t changed too much.
If they’re in a different part of the country than you, book a flight to visit for a weekend. If they’re nearby, make a plan to hang out once a month and stay in touch.
6. Learn a New Skill
As you age, you begin to get the sense that your cognitive function is leaving you. By learning a new skill, like how to play an instrument, you can prove to yourself that your brain is still in tip-top shape.
Another thing you can do to stay sharp is complete newspaper crosswords or sudokus. There are also lots of apps that you can download on your phone that have crosswords and other brain games if you don’t get the paper.
How to Feel Better
A guide on how to feel better is completely subjective. You know you better than anyone, so you should be able to deduce what you’re doing right and wrong in your life.
Keep a journal of how you feel at certain times of the day. This way, you can get an idea of how to correct the bad ones. Make 2019 the year that you turned it around.
